Jack Albershardt
Artistic Background
Jack began his life working with glass in spring 2011 at Penland, NC by taking an 8 week hands on class with Micah Evans, Matt Eskuche and demos by Salt and Chris mcelroy. he immediately fell in love with glass and continued by taking more classes at penland with Shane Fero and Emilio Santini. Once he had a little education under his belt he decided to invest in the proper studio equipment and went to work in his mother's garage. After a few months behind the torch because the risks were low at age 19 and he decided to quit his job and pursue glass full time. Several months later he decided that he needed an environment to grow and learn so he moved to Asheville, the glass blowing hub in north Carolina. he worked in Fireworx studio which was owned by Snoop ( shannon norris) and Erin cartee. Jack worked there for about 8 months and due to some health complications he made the move to Colorado with his parents to have legal access to cannabis for treatment. since moving to Colorado he has had no health complications and will always be an advocate for safe and responsible use of cannabis.
Within The first week Jack moved out to Colorado there was a Champs tradeshow going on in Denver and that is where he was introduced to Berzerker (Brian Serck). Berzerker was the only glass blower he knew of that lived in Gunnison, the town jack just moved to. Weeks later jack was offered a 2 year apprenticeship, he worked for berzerker doing prep work, sandblasting, working with dichroic extract, online sales and helping him do trade shows.
In 2015 Jack was invited back to Penland for an epic class that Micah Evans put together. in this class he learned a lot about complex hollow work and the process of collaborating with other glass artists all of the skills jack learned in this class made a huge impact on his career and broadened his skillset for life. After returning home to Colorado From the class jack knew the small town he lived in wasn't adequate for the artistic community he craved . a working position at Dreamlab in Evergreen CO opened up and Jack's friend  Andrew Certo helped him get his foot in the door. Through his experience working at dreamlab many new doors opened up, he was able to meet many fantastic artists from all over the world.
the doors seemed open and in 2017 Jack finally decided to take the leap into pursuing his own artistic visions full time. He still helps out fellow artists and friends when he can but the days of working on someone else’s vision are over.
In fall of 2018 Jack moved to Denver and now works at the shackmansion studio alongside of some other very talented glass blowers, Shackman, Coldberger, Pogo, Burtoni and Oddball. Jack craves the communal work environment and feels very lucky to be able to work around such an awesome group of people. Jack has plans to continue pursuing his sculptural, pattern, dichroic, extract, pendants and functional work and he will be adding plenty of new designs to my portfolio for years to come. With a medium that has an infinite variable, change is the only constant.
As jack continues his glass career he is constantly inspired to try his hand at other mediums. over the years jack plans to pursue my education and broaden the spectrum of mediums that he is able to work with. Jack's artistic vision is full of different ideas beyond just pipe art but for now it will be the holy grail
